My wife, mother in law and two elderly relatives were booked for the unaccompanied train and bus tour with afternoon tea. We were told to go to the wrong tea room when we arrived. So we had to buy our lunch at an alternative venue at a cost of £104.20. I approached the company for a refund to the value of these meals. It was refused and we were offered the £50 which we paid for the afternoon teas. I even pursued the matter with 3 Counties Radio customer complaints show to no avail. As a matter of principle I took the company to the small claims court and won the case. I would urge anyone else who has had the same experience (and there are many) to do the same. The managing director was unhelpful, and completely unprofessional. I would not recommend this company as they are completely disorganised and have no idea regarding customer care. I would add that the volunteers at the train station were extremely knowledgeable and you can see that they love the work they do.

Do not bother to book with Chigwell Tours as they are useless when we went to check in with the Tour Guide we were told we were not on her list that had been given to her by Chigwell Tours despite me showing her the e-mail I had to confirm my booking for a self guided tour with Afternoon Tea this also happened to 4 others couples in the group! We did do the tour but we did not get our Afternoon Tea as paid for!!

The 5 stars are for Amanda who was so helpful what a lovely pleasant lady she was the tour guide and the driver that took us to the lovely church St. Andrews which was the highlight of our visit, the oldest wooden church in the world so quaint found it amazing and still standing after many many years. We loved the vintage bus and the steam train plus the lovely weather. But of confusion relating to charge for mini bus which we didn’t have ?? But all in all a lovely day plus a lovely lunch at the 2 brewers inn while we waited for our ride the the church .

We went today it was a bit cramp while waiting for the bus to arrive could stand somewhere better once the tour guide had given everyone thier ticket. Has other train users was having trouble getting pass. Yes, it was nice travelling on the steam train which was a short ride. Now for Ongar sorry but what a boring place I was expecting more, considering its a historic place I was hoping for markets and trinket shops, more historic places. We had 2hrs there but to be honest it's was you can do it in 45mins. We had the afternoon tea was booked at delmias when we asked if can have it early they said no, but as there was a few of us waiting they let us have ours early. But never was offered tea . Even though we had already had drinks while waiting, still had to pay for these. Coming back one bus was not helpful and said we had 45min wait for bus when it was only 10mins.in and all could of been a shorter itinerary.

Had a great experience on the steam train from North Weald to Ongar. Lovely staff and lovely transport. The journey could have been a little longer and the tracks through Epping forest were defective so didn’t get the full experience, also staff responding online to questions were a little slow to respond. All the same a good day out and after all it’s run by volunteers !
