We went recently as wife is big fan of Richard III. Parking outside is limited but you can park around the village. The staff were super friendly and knowledgable. There isn't anything to really interact with as its just ruins but there are good interoperation panels around the the place has great atmosphere. Well worth the money if you like castle ruins. We stayed about 40 minutes and there is a little shop there. Public toilets nearby and they cost 20p a time.

Only viewed from the outside as it's way overpriced for what it is, in my opinion. You can get reasonable views from the outside but can't walk all the way round without trespassing technically. If you're visiting Middleham you may as well walk to the castle for a nosey but not worth driving out to. Middleham itself looked quite pleasant but it was Sunday so not much open. There are pubs and a tearoom serving food just below the castle.
