I work in hospitality and believe me when I say the staff unfortunately are the problem with this place. I went in just to order a drink at the bar, it was very quiet not busy at all, 4 staff were working minimum. I was told that I couldn't and instead told to take a table and my order would be taken. After a few minutes my order was taken and then after 20 minutes it still hadn't arrived. I went to the bar and the bartender knew nothing about it, so I ordered again and waited for it. The lady who originally took my order asked me why I was waiting at the bar, so I said I had waited over 20 minutes and gave up so ordered myself. No apology, just muttered something to herself and marched off. Then she came back to charge me. Another 10 minutes later, the bartender seemingly waiting for orders from the tables and in no hurry still hadn't made my drink, I gave up and left. No point even trying to get a refund at this point as the staff clearly no clue what they were doing and if after 30 minutes when it's quiet can't make a simple drink then that says it all.

The food is very tasty - I had a Caesar salad starter and the duck main course, they were lovely. There are some things where they could improve, though. The duck comes with the house salad. I asked if the salad could be swapped for chips, having just had a salad as a starter, but was told that they don't change the dishes. Basically, you get what is on the menu. I could buy a side of chips if I wanted, which I did, and the house salad went back untouched which is a bit of a waste. Ok, this isn't a big deal. It only cost £4 for the chips. But not putting a salad on a plate takes zero effort, and it would have been a nice customer friendly thing to do. The second thing is that the bill comes with a tip automatically added, and it doesn't give the tip %. I used a calculator, and it's 12.5%. I had been planning to leave a tip anyway because the serving staff were fine, but would have liked to choose the amount, especially when it's more than the normal 10%. Given the lack of flexibility with a simple thing like salad vs chips I might have left a smaller tip; the waitress explained that the tip goes to the serving staff, so I immediately relented and said I would pay the whole amount. Sadly, then the tip itself became an issue, with the waitress insisting she would remove it. We then got into a back-and-forth with me insisting I pay it! I didn't want to penalise the waiting staff; I would have been more happy if she had said the chips were free and knocked £4 off the bill! So, great food, but some of the little customer things could be improved.

This restaurant has a lot of potential. Great location and the food choice is good. The problem is the lack of staff and the incredibly slow service. Long wait to be served, drinks coming, starters and mains. The food itself is unloved and feels rushed. The place has great outdoor seating and looks fantastic inside. When it opened it was great but over the past 18 months, having visited several times it just feels like it's in terminal decline. Either sort the service out and make the most of the space or shut up shop and give someone else the chance to make the most of it.

We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Luciano's. It wasn't overly busy (probably due to Eurovision parties) so we were able to get a table easily. The welcome was warm and the seating comfortable. Good selection of food on the menu plus a decent wine list. Service was very friendly, efficient and well paced The food we ordered was served piping hot and was cooked really well. There was entertainment provided by a jazz guitarist and singer which wasn't too loud. Overall, a great evening and a restaurant we're more than happy to recommend. Thank you.
