UOS INCOMING STUDENTS - DO NOT LIVE HERE! Terrible rooms, I came here with a shower full of someone's hair in the drains and the taps, and had to buy my own drain cleaner to clean them. as well as a mysterious brown stain on the floor The areas around mayflower is infested with motorcycle gangs revving their fruity little engines throughout the night, sometimes up to 2am. and the police do NOTHING Combine all this with the incredibly high price for even the most basic rooms here, it isn't worth it.

My daughter not long moved in, we missed out on the private rentals this academic year so she is was stuck with Mayflower. We pay 190.00 a week for her large room (this is not being covered by student finance) and its an ice box! they said they don't turn the heating on until its cold, and in October... the word cold is relative, some people feel it others don't. 10 days later still no heating has been turned on. I initially bought her big blankets, net curtains, a rug to try and insulate better but the longer you leave the heating off the colder the room gets each day. I have visited her a number of times in the past three weeks and her room is freezing, and you cant open the windows or dry any items you washed in your sink in your room if you don't want to use the laundry room dryers. These people that control the facilities i am sure they have their heating on at home but happy for other peoples kids to go without, I want to stress... the room is NOT FREE.. . She missed lectures last week after getting sick waking up every morning in the cold. I have now been told (coincidentally while on the phone with them) its been turned on and can take up to 10 days to filter through!! palming me off with that nonsense I know exactly how heating systems work. If they know it takes 10 days why wait until the 10th, why not have turned them on sooner?, because its nonsense. Thank god, its just one year at these halls and thankfully she has nice clean respectful flat mates and the reception staff are pleasant, and professional and helpful.
