What a brilliant place I was desperate and needed to sort my life out i thought I never had any hope I was looking into going to a rehab and after I phoned around others rehabs I spoke to grant what a top bloke he spoke to me like an actual human and made me feel at ease and he spoke to my parents and got me in as quick as he could.the rehab it self was really good all the staff have been through addiction which made a massive difference and would do anything to make you feel comfortable it was the perfect place to start your recovery journey. When I went in my life was upside down and I was in trouble I couldn’t stop now I am a completely different person and just beginning to live my life.if you are suffering and you need to be taken away from your substance this is the place to do it.the structure is thought out so well and really helps you build a tool kit to fight your addiction!

Well where to begin?.... My brother was very unwell due to being addicted to alcohol for years, to the point where it took over his life and he was gradually losing everything that mattered to him bit by bit... it was absolutely heart breaking to see the state he was in, how he was living and how it was affecting him physically and emotionally... I knew that he needed professional help (and that he needed it quickly!) - I contacted the Lighthouse step by step centre and spoke to Grant - from that moment things started to turn around and after chatting to Grant I knew that it was, without doubt, the best place for my brother to go for the help he so desperately needed - after chatting to Grant himself, my brother was keen to go himself, as he had finally got to the point where he was no longer in denial and realised that the alcohol had complete control over him and he was ready for change... he went in for the 28 day rehab program and everyone at the Lighthouse were amazing! Right from helping him to detox, with the help of medication, through to counselling, group activities and even walks on the beach! 😊 Also they were always wonderful whenever I phoned for updates on how my brother was getting on - they put my mind at rest and from the start they had my complete trust in them - they even came to Colchester to pick my brother up to take him in initially, as he had a wobble and I couldn’t get him to come with me (which was understandable as it must’ve seemed quite daunting even though he wanted to do it!) - He finished the program a couple of days ago and feels so much better now and sounds more like his old (true) self, and I am comforted by knowing that he has ongoing support going forward whenever he feels like he needs it - he’s also keeping in touch with some of the other people that were staying there at the same time as him... Our family will always be forever grateful to the Lighthouse for giving my brother his life back - which is honestly something that I believe he would not have had for much longer had he not have gone on the program - thank you all soo much for everything 👍😊 Paula Moakes

Excellent facilities and very professional qualified staff. Rooms are good quality, some with en-suite. When i stayed (for 4 weeks during May21) there were 7 other clients, we all got on really well. I was treated for alcholism, today i feel great. I stayed at the step-by-step in Shoeburyness, Essex (called Lighthouse).

I have my life back! I went into the Lighthouse Treatment Centre desperate and broken. After finishing the 28 day program I moved into the Supported Housing. Full of nerves and what ifs but I faced my fears and it turned out to be the best decision of my life. I couldn’t do it in my own. The staff are amazing, they understand and what stood out for me the most is that they actually care. I’m happy and content, something I have been searching for 21 years. If you’re reading this and don’t know where to turn, I’ve been there. Reach out make a phone call. You never know it may change your life like it has mine.

We have only wonderful things to say about this amazing place. It gave our daughter her life back, to reach her potential, and be the person we always knew she was. Without this intervention we know we would not have our daughter with us today. They are truly professional and enable through a rigorous programme people achieve the sometimes impossible, but they make it happen, they are different, thorough and don't like many other types of recovery places offer just medication they have constructive programmes that are followed everyday. Thank you all at the lighthouse for returning our daughter back

Avoid. I travelled to their clinic in Southend after paying £1,000 deposit demanded over the phone. On arrival, their main concern was the payment of the rest of the fee before proceeding. My bank declined payment (thankfully). I had already decided that I did not wish to remain there as the staff and general appearance of the place seemed unprofessional. I was later admitted by another more professional clinic/ company and am now well. I requested the return of £1,000 deposit from Step By Step , which they draggged their feet about doing, and would not return the deposit. I therefore had no choice but to go through the "chargeback" proceedure with my bank (I paid deposit with my Barclays Bank card). Barclays and visa are now going through the chargeback procedure with this company so that they will be required to return the deposit. This company prays on people at their most vulnerable moment and should not be trading. If you wish a similar awful experience as mine, by all means go there. I can only advise you of what happened to me, I hope it does not happen to you too
