I have just passed the 6 month milestone following surgery on both feet, undertaken by Mr David Gordon. I have now been discharged from after-care reviews, but Mr Gordon will continue to monitor my progress over the coming 10 years. I arranged a consultation with him in August 2022. I had a bunion on my right foot and what I thought was a bunion just starting to develop on my left. His initial review revealed a couple more issues - a hammer toe and some toes out of alignment, in addition to the moderate bunion on my right foot. The left foot did not have a bunion, but a ‘bump’ which could be corrected. I did not suffer a great deal of pain from my feet, just what I would describe as discomfort. I wore bunion protection pads every day and had tried all sorts of straps, contraptions and in-soles to try to correct the bunion myself. Nothing worked! I was embarrassed by my feet and had to be very careful to choose footwear which would not cause pressure or pain, particularly on the right foot. In the summer months, although I did wear sandals, I could not wear any which had straps which would go anywhere near the bunion - and I would always be conscious of the ‘ugliness’ of my feet. My feet did not really stop me doing anything - I did, and still do, walk between 10 and 12 miles a day and attend a gym regularly. My concerns were more about appearance. At my initial consultation with Mr Gordon, I asked him to carry out the necessary procedures to both feet and x-rays were taken immediately. My surgery was scheduled for 10 November 2022 at the Spire Hospital in Harpenden. Mr Gordon’s team were always available, by telephone, to deal with any of my queries and I found them all very helpful and supportive. Mr Gordon had managed my expectations at our initial meeting and outlined the requirements for recovery (which he also covered in a letter afterwards). I was sedated for the surgery, but woke up to two fully bandaged feet and some Velcro sandals which I was required to wear for a few weeks. I went home the same day, within just a few hours, but with strict rules about limiting time on my feet, keeping the dressings dry and following some simple exercises, several times a day. I was happy that the surgery had gone so well, but, unfortunately, developed an infection in one foot about 6 days later - nobody’s ‘fault’, just a risk with any surgery. I contacted Mr Gordon’s team who arranged for me to see him the very next day and some strong anti-biotics were prescribed, which quickly saw off the infection. I started taking short walks about 2/3 weeks after surgery and slowly built these up. I was able to drive after about 6 weeks (once confirmed by Mr Gordon) and generally resumed all my normal activities quickly, but while being mindful of the need to let my feet recover. I had review meetings at 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months (plus two extra reviews when the infection appeared). I have almost forgotten my surgery now. I just have two tiny scars on the right foot, which will disappear with time. All other toes have been corrected and aligned. For the first time in years, I have feet which are ‘normal’ and this delights me. Mr Gordon is professional, friendly and reassuring. He is also a ‘straight-talker’ who let me know exactly what to expect in terms of surgery and the outcome. I recommend him to anybody who has issues with their feet. Thank you !

Following years of plucking up the courage to 'deal' with my bunions, I met with David Gordon & finally took the plunge .... and am so thrilled that I did! I'd looked extensively into both traditional and keyhole surgery and knew keyhole was the only route I was prepared to try due to the quicker recovery time, lack of scarring etc. I had heard great things about Mr Gordon and spoke to several of his past patients who had nothing but positive things to say about him, the surgery, recovery and results. From the moment I met him I felt totally comfortable and reassured about the whole procedure and had no hesitation about in booking in a date for surgery. The lead up, day of surgery and post-operation care were all fantastic and the result is more amazing than I could have imagined. Not only do my feet look fabulous but 7 months down the line I have no pain and almost no scarring. For anyone suffering from bunions and sitting on that fence about whether to go down the surgery route, I'd suggest at least meeting with Mr Gordon to ask all those questions that are going through your mind so that you can make a fully informed decision about whether to take that plunge. For me the decision to go ahead has been the best decision I've made in a long time and one I wished I'd make a lot sooner.

I decided to research bunion surgery as soon as my foot began to feel painful and uncomfortable in certain shoes, which I had previously worn without any issues. Pain would often continue for days, sometimes weeks, even out of footwear and the overall shape of the foot and other toes were becoming affected due to the growing bunion. Not wanting to go down the traditional bunionectomy route for a number of reasons, I was happy to find that keyhole surgery was available which offered less downtime and a quicker recovery period (amongst its advantages). After researching my options, I arranged a consultation with Mr Gordon; he examined my foot, answered all of my questions and was very informative about the process of surgery and recovery. I didn’t hesitate to arrange a date for my procedure by contacting his office staff, who were helpful in assisting with my booking and any further queries I had. The day of surgery went exceptionally well; the staff at The Spire were incredibly professional and friendly, and made every effort to ensure I was comfortable and relaxed before, and after surgery, as did Mr Gordon and his medical team. The surgery went well and I was home the same day. The days following surgery were easier than I had anticipated, as was recovery on the whole. My personal experience was almost completely pain free and without any complications. I followed my post operative instructions exactly as advised and as soon as I was out of the surgical boot, I was wearing a wide fitting trainer. Within 4-6 months I was back in my regular shoes (and some heels) without any noticeable swelling or pain. I’m so pleased that I opted to have surgery and now 7 months on, I am extremely happy with my recovery and of course, with my lovely, bunion free foot!

I had a very positive experience with Dr Gordon. I found him after extensive search and reviews on Bupa's and other websites. He was very thorough, things happened as expected, the procedure was trouble-free and the recovery has been excellent.

Before the surgery I had terrible discomfort walking and playing sports. The bunions got to the point where I couldn’t wear any of my shoes comfortably. This is when I decided to go see Mr David Gordon. The service was fantastic, I didn’t have much uncertainty over whether to have surgery as I had been suffering for a number of years and seen doctors in the NHS previously. However, the key-hole surgeries non-invasive process convinced me to have it done. The surgery was excellent, they did an amazing job. I spent the first 2 weeks in bed, then slowly worked my way back to normal with minimal discomfort. I am at the 6-month period now, and my feet are in better condition than they ever have been. I can play sports and exercise without any pain or discomfort. The procedure really has changed my life for the better! For anyone who is having issues with bunions, I would recommend going to see Mr Gordon.

Mr Gordon is a very personable, friendly consultant. He operated on my left foot in December 2019 correcting a severe bunion with cross over toes. In February 2022 he operated on my right foot to again correct a bunion and to relieve the under foot pain I was experiencing. Mr Gordon's communication and professionalism was good throughout and I highly recommend him.

Having had an operation to correct two toes and 1 bunion that was both troublesome and painful…I have now traded one problem for another that is equally troublesome and painful!!!!!! Truly beyond Disappointed!!!!! Your response is disappointing as I am not complaining about the bunion part of the opp. It is the toe next to it you worked on, when you came to see me after the opp I immediately pointed it out to you then…and thereafter again in our follow up. I was not happy with the fact you said I would have to undergo a remedial opp on what was already remedial opp. I am now left with painful toes and have replaced one painful problem with another, NOT what I had hoped when coming to you!!!!
