Honestly very disappointing stay. I rarely give 1 star reviews. We were rudely awakened early on the morning of our departure by the deafening sound of furniture being dragged above us. We had a 7 hour journey ahead of us and needed the rest. After tolerating the noise for 30 minutes my friend went to reception to report it. She was gaslit and told “there aren’t any rooms above yours and nobody else has complained.” - that’s fine but WE are here complaining and we aren’t imagining the noise. I resorted to recording it on video after it went on for a further 15 minutes. I ended up having to speak to the manger after I confronted the receptionist once again. All we needed to hear was “I’m sorry to hear this, let me look into this for you” instead of the gaslighting. When we spoke to the manger he simply said “I’m sure she didn’t mean it like that” - fine but BOTH my friend and I experienced the same dismissive attitude from her and him which isn’t a coincidence. We are both different ethnic minorities (myself visibly Muslim) and didn’t feel heard at all. We were made aware by another member of staff that there are indeed offices above our room (room 15). We also paid £600+ for two nights - no spa facilities were available until mid May, and some of the bedroom decor / artwork is outdated / mismatched - didn’t resemble the photos. We ordered salmon sandwiches from the bar for £10- as you can see from the photos there was an inadequate amount of salmon between the bread. Products left in the room for guests is a lovely touch. Older gentleman on reception during the Friday evening of our arrival was welcoming - 10/10 hospitality as well as the gentleman who saw us off and called a taxi for us. Beautiful well maintained grounds, views and public areas. Clean rooms and facilities, the open fire in the entrance is a lovely homely touch. The breakfast is also lovely with friendly waiting staff - however when ordering Eggs Royal you only get one half of the muffin?! Despite some positivity and good memories with friends, I would not return, nor would my friend. We felt hostility unlike anything else I have experienced, and it has left a bitter taste in our mouths.
