Main building and formal gardens are grand, very impressive, in a remote countryside location. This is a lovely place. But beware: you may be placed in "The Annex" which has cheaply renovated rooms in an outhouse that stink and have thin walls where you here the next-door TV. And they stink really bad, really, really bad! Had the windows wide open to try to air the room. It made it cold but better than the smell. Restaurant food is good but there needs to be a restaurant manager to train and oversee the very pleasant, but very inexperienced waiting staff.

This was a really nice stay for a great value. The Elvetham concluded a 10-day trip in England and Wales. The hotel and estate itself was quite spectacular. Walking the grounds was truly enjoyable and learning some of the history of the place was an experience on its own. The room was pretty nice, however none of the power outlets worked for the first night. We requested this be addressed the first afternoon, but it did not receive attention until the next morning. Thankfully we received a prompt check at our room and learned a circuit had tripped the breaker and was easily reset, and we were good for the rest of the day. However, we only used the outlets to charge our phones and laptops. Upon the morning of our checkout day, when we intended to use the kettle provided by the room - it sparked quite powerfully a few seconds after turning it on and once more rendered the room outlets dead. Thankfully no major problem here as the lights were on a separate circuit and worked fine; it just proved to be a minor annoyance. The restaurant was worth making reservations for and the food was quite nice. However, my lady and I were the only ones in the dining room when sat. The very next diners that arrived were sat at the table next to us... which with an empty room with all the other tables being available, this was rather puzzling. The bar saw a good bit of use from us, and was quite a nice room that we enjoyed. However, the bar service was rather slow. With one bartender taking orders from not only the bar patrons, but the dining room and other event rooms - it felt very understaffed. Even a second, dedicated person, solely in charge of bar orders only would help tremendously. But - there was a ton of staff constantly in and out of the room, on a scale and pace that felt very disorganized, especially considering the bar had its own food menu. I should also mention that the room and bathroom were spacious and did not feel crowded. The shower was very nice, with up to scalding hot water and great water pressure available. It was quite refreshing. The room was also quiet, as were the grounds. All in all, I'd recommend a stay.

We visited to celebrate my partner’s sister’s birthday, so had 3 family rooms. We have a 8 year old daughter, but they put a cot in our room. I asked twice to get an extra fold bed, and they didn’t have a clue what to do. We all ended up sharing a bed on the first night, and by mid morning the next day, they still hadn’t taken the cot out and provided an extra bed. They said they didn’t have any. I then saw a cupboard open with 4 foldable beds, so I took one myself and put it in our room. No one at the hotel knew what they were doing. Their answer to every question was “let me get the manager”, or they just stare at you blankly. They said they were under-staffed, but that doesn’t excuse complete incompetence. On the Saturday night, there was a party downstairs. I have no issue with there being a party, but the music was so loud and the windows are so thin that you feel like you’re at the party in your room, so neither myself, my partner or our young daughter could sleep until after midnight. I complained downstairs and they decided that closing the windows in the party room would suffice. I asked why, knowing that we had booked a family room as a family and asked for extra beds, did they think it was a good idea to place us directly above an area where a party would be taking place. Rooms on the 2nd floor were quiet. Again, a shrug of the shoulders. No effort made to appease us. Awful place, which is a shame as the building and grounds are beautiful. Waste of money!

Spent three nights here. All of the staff were very friendly and attentive. Our room was clean, comfortable and reasonably quiet. The menus didn't change during our stay but there was enough of an selection not to be dissapointing. The food was well cooked and well presented; as was the tables. The grounds/gardens were mostly laid to grass and very well looked after.

Great place to stay with very friendly staff, who go out of their way to make your stay better. We loved that this place was dog friendly, but couldn't believe how welcome they made us feel with the dog. The experience starts well when you are greeted by the reception staff in the glorious main house. When we walked into the room we discovered a super king bed for us, which was very comfortable and a huge dog bed. The room was equipped with everything you would expect, along with a dog bowl, treat and a dog toy. On top of the great room, the main building is set in glorious grounds with very well manicured gardens. We also could not fault the friendly staff in the bar, who again made our dog feel welcome and offered us great service, food and drinks. As you may guess, we will definitely be coming back again and would recommend others to try it.
