I would urge anyone not to bother following this route for a refund. I have been told by them that it takes 60-90 days for a resolution. The retailer seemed quite happy when I told them I was taking it to the ombudsman, and now I can see why - it means they can stall and not do anything. I would advise consumers to try to get a chargeback on their debit / credit card and not bother with this service - a complete joke to your consumer rights and not fit for purpose

Absolute crooks just plain and simple, biased company setup by the furniture companies themselves to protect the furniture companies! We was sold a sofa by scs which when delivered was the wrong colour and funnily enough scs and the ombudsman refused to acknowledge the difference in colour. Yet everyone else could see it , we bought a grey sofa online and a cream one was delivered and both the ombudsman and scs claim the colour difference was “within tolerance” I have never been dealt with in this way before and am actually shocked that such a big company would behave in such a way, far from an ombudsman just a biased company setup and funded by the companies they are supposed to make sure are following the law! Disgusting

Very dissapointing. The case handler was negligiant and unprofessional. Despite the retailer's report documenting a manufacturing fault. The case handler ignored this and claimed that there is no evidence of any manufacturing faults and closed the case without any explanation. The case handler has refused to reopen or escalate my case.

Absolutely a terrible service. If I could rate no star I would. I’ve been trying to contact them for the last year or so but no response from them, absolute a joke! I don’t even know why they even existed, useless company! Figures they put on my outcome of decisions were all wrong and they can’t even rectify them and make their decisions properly. Awful experience against Wren and them!

Shockingly ridiculously poor and pointless service. It's honestly as if they just don't consider your complaint despite the mountains of evidence and even an admission by the accusee. It's hilarious! Their phoneline is constantly busy or unavailable (over a span of 7 months) and there is no call back request option. They certainly do NOT seem like an independent organisation set up to help resolve disputes and raise standards. I cannot fathom why they're allowed to exist. Their ratings speak for themselves :/

I spent a lot of time (months) with forming the evidence file to submit to the furniture & home improvements ombudsman. The case was to do with poor service/product & installation of our kitchen by Wren Kitchen Limited. I gave them 2 years to try and sort out a put correct and they failed so i decided to take the complaint to the Furniture & Home Improvement Ombudsman, and what a waste of time. They sent a independent specialist to check out the kitchen who stated the kitchen was un-satisfactory. Although their independent specialist also (Like myself) reported such bad workmanship/service/product the ombudsman decided to play their role by giving a much less offer than the retailer Wren Kitchens Limited. Off course the retailer pays the FHIO a membership for which (like others have mentioned below) they are not going to look at your case fairly even if you get a report done by the specialist they will not take it into consideration, also they do not do what they actually say which is to help the 2 parties come to a fair compromise. In short the whole process was a waste of time like others have mentioned below, so i am now going to seek my own legal advice and will be now pursuing this in court of law

ABSOLUTE WASTE OF TIME! My Kitchen was delayed by Homebase mis-measuring & mis-ordering the correct items, for the Ombudsman to say I should have checked all the flat packed items that Homebase sent before I even thought about fitting it! Total madness. Don't bother, you'll get no further than you did before. I had no Kitchen for 3 months & this was acceptable to these people. WHAT A JOKE!!

Absolutely terrible “service”. Given that the Furniture Ombudsman are paid by the retailer, it should have been clear as to how they would (or rather fail to) investigate any form of complaint in a thorough and timely manner. It seemed to us that the ombudsman stalled and procrastinated at every opportunity in an attempt to delay and stifle the process. In our case we believe the ombudsman colluded with the furniture retailer in order to frustrate our complaint process. The ombudsman claimed that all telephone calls are recorded, however at no point is this pointed out to the consumer, making these calls inadmissible if they were ever presented to court at a later date. A very shady practice. Shame on you. DO NOT USE, WASTE OF TIME!

Absolutely useless with no regard for the importance of regular communication when you are going through dealing with incompetent furniture companies. Having utilised Energy ombudsman services, I expected far better. We sadly had to chase constantly to get replies to emails, they failed to reply to phone messages and the whole process has taken longer to resolve due to the poor communication and organisation of this service.

Never waste your time with this mediation, they get paid by retailers who are their members which means they will always take their side and they are not impartial... dont bother you will only get negative response. Directly take your claim to trading standards.
