Nothing compared to how it used to be. I’m not really sure what happened but Hix, as it was called before, was one of our favourite restaurants to go to. We had come back after having not been for a few years for a birthday meal and we won’t be coming back again. Service was appalling, there were only two waiters taking orders, one of which was responsible for the drinks so things felt delayed. Food wasn’t anything special and didn’t match the price. Fish was undercooked and ‘wet’, it always used to be grilled and was lovely. After we left, we saw two of the chefs pushing a box of FROZEN fish down the path, very disappointing.

Shocking. For a place recommended on the Michelin guide, from the broken toilet seat to the quality of the food and service, no standard. The fish was bland, no seasoning at all not even some salt, swimming in butter soup, same for spring vegetables and potatoes. Chocolate mousse made with cocoa powder, never seen that, the same goes for ricotta dessert, just a weird combination that looked like sick on a plate. Last but not least, when I made the booking online, I selected birthday as special occasion, as it is, but did not receive even a simple gesture or acknowledgment towards that. Then why having this option? Very disappointed. For a chef having his own book, can do a lot better. Don’t bother.

My second visit to the Oyster & Fish House alone. Once again I was made very welcome by the friendly, knowledgeable and super professional staff. The setting is stunning and the food outstanding. I had frito misto followed by roast monkfish tail with green sauce and vegetables. Fantastic quality, simple and fresh - exactly what I wanted. For a special occasion meal to remember it's also very reasonable. If you love fish and seafood this place is a must when you're in Lyme.

As always, the food was delicious and the staff warm and welcoming. Unfortunately the initial ambience was spoiled by the diners on a table near us who had no regard for other people wishing to enjoy the restaurant. They were so loud I could not hear my friend talking to me, and she was sat immediately next to me. I do appreciate this is no fault of the restaurant, but it would've been nice to see them asked to be a little quieter and show others respect. Considering the establishment is not cheap to eat at, I was very disappointed with the noise levels. Comparable to being in a local pub on a friday afternoon!

Excellent restaurant. Great food and absolutely delightful staff. From the moment we walked in until home timeFreya and Matt looked after us so well. Try their Voignier as an aperitif, delicious. I had the Cauliflower Pekora followed by the whole blackened Sea Bream and then Isle of Wight blue cheese. My wife had the fritto misto with some salad and fries followed by iced and chocolate sauce. All the food was cooked to perfection with gorgeous flavours. The decor and sublime panoramic views go further to make a wonderful dining experience. We'll done Mark Hix and his team! Perfect.
