This week I saw Mr Nick Faure Walker for the first time about another urological problem and was very impressed by his knowledge professionalism and bedside manner. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer even though I did not have any symptoms although my father had prostate cancer. I just decided to go to my GP and insist on a check. To my surprise my PSA result was positive and after my biopsy I was luckily to be referred to a surgeon at the prostate centre, by my consultant. I was not sure what would be the best solution and if I should to go for robotic surgery. My Surgeon Mr Challacoombe was incredible, plan speaking personable type of guy who has been there for me throughout. On our first meeting he read my report from biopsy which was not showing anything too high however after a quick consultation he surprised me by saying I will see you in 3 weeks rather than 2 or 3 months which I would have expected although I left there knowing everything what I be expecting go through and what I needed to do before the operation and felt I was in good hands. After my surgery he informed me as he suspected my cancer had broken out of the prostate. I thought I was on a lonely road that seemed dark, however that was far from the case, the prostate centre nurses, admin and obviously Mr Challacoombe all could not do enough for me. Encouraging me to stay positive and strong and he and the team were always there for me. Over the weeks and months I had a few difficult issues and spent quite a number of visits to the centre and everyone there have been fantastic and very understanding to my wife and I. 4 years later so far, the cancer has not returned and I still have regular PSA checks, because it broke out and today I returned for my 6 monthly check and it's like seeing old friends, they really care about you this is not just a hospital, without them I would not have been in such a good place to face the unknown. I cannot recommend the prostate centre and all the team highly enough they gave me and my wife the reassurance to stay positive and hopefully look forward to be given the all clear.
