Can’t recommend this place enough. We attended puppy school here and found Beth to be an excellent tutor. We have a rather large and boisterous puppy but we were treated as individuals and we’re really reassured by this approach. We will likely revisit at a later date for some 1 on 1 training. Great value for money as well as a friendly approach. Keep up the good work Barkleys and Co.

We've just completed the 4 week Puppy Training Course and I would highly recommend it. As new puppy owners we didn't know what to expect from the course but the things we've all learnt have been invaluable in getting our little lad set up for a life of fun and playing. Beth, the course instructor, really knows her stuff and explained what she wanted the dogs to do in a calm and relaxed manner which helped settle everyone. We were given homework each week to help reinforce the behaviours we had practiced during the hourly sessions; this was delivered via a WhatsApp group with Beth and the other course participants. At the end of the 4 weeks there's a graduation for all the puppies with opportunities to attend further learning and playing activities at the centre. All in all, a really positive experience and one which I'm glad we attended.

Beth has been amazing and is so knowledgeable & always has the time to help you, even outside of the training room. Our puppy has come such a long way in 4 weeks and we wouldn’t have been able to do it without Barkleys Dog Training Academy. Thank you once again!

Our Barkleys trainer is a genuinely dog-loving person who has the patience to work ethically while still achieving excellent results! My puppy, Camille, is a sensitive little spirit who is highly emotive in that she tends to get overexcited, experiences sensory overload when trigger stacked and, in typical Border Collie style, is easily distracted. Beth utilises Camille’s hyperfocus to engage her, working within her comfort zone in order to gradually expand it so that my pup is able to work in increasingly busy environments. For us, this is a massive win as collies are bred to work in big, grassy, open spaces with very few distractions, which means that raising a sheepdog in a city has its challenges. Camille, like a lot of border collie puppies, has a strong chase drive (herding instinct), and Beth has adapted to this by using concept training, targets instead of luring to keep Camille’s highly intelligent brain engaged on one task (rather than getting bored and finding other things to do!) and memorising her commands (of which there are many!) to keep her focussed on our learning goals. The result has been that, rather than going crazy with excitement and being unable to concentrate on training with an exciting new person (instead of boring old me!), my puppy has come on leaps and bounds in terms of increased confidence, enhanced focus, impulse control, desensitisation to movement, loose leash walking, and responsiveness to her handlers. This has been a HUGE contrast to previous trainers we’ve worked with in the area who, unlike Beth, were unadaptable and did not tailor learning to suit the doggy brain in front of them. As such, I would like to send ONE MASSIVE THANK YOU TO BARKLEYS DOG TRAINING ACADEMY, a dog-loving and safe space for furry family members!
