FAQ

What are the qualifications and experience levels of your instructors?

Our instructors are highly qualified and experienced, with certifications from recognized sailing associations. They have years of experience teaching and sailing competitively. We ensure that our instructors are up to date on the latest teaching methods and safety protocols.

What is the student-to-instructor ratio in your classes?

We maintain a low student-to-instructor ratio to give our students the best learning experience. Our ratio is typically 4:1, which allows our instructors to provide personalized attention to each student.

What type of boats do you use for instruction?

We use a variety of sailboats for our classes, including dinghies and keelboats. Our boats are well-maintained and equipped with the latest safety equipment.

What safety protocols do you have in place?

Safety is our top priority at White Dot Sailing. We have strict safety protocols in place, including requiring life jackets for all students and instructors, conducting safety briefings before each class, and monitoring weather conditions closely. Our instructors are also trained in first aid and rescue procedures.

What is your cancellation policy for classes and what happens in case of bad weather?

If a student needs to cancel a class, we require at least 48 hours notice. If we need to cancel a class due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, we will reschedule the class for a later date. We always prioritize the safety of our students and instructors, and will not conduct classes in unsafe weather conditions.

I became aware of Will Spencer at White Dot Sailing through an ARC 2022 Presentation he did. I reached out to Will shortly afterwards to see if he and his team could help my family and I realize our dream of living aboard a sail boat by helping me Project Manage a boat build. He said yes, fortunately, and worked closely with us for the next 8 months managing the boat build and developing a very comprehensive snagging list upon receipt of the boat. His services were instrumental in allowing us to turn into a small White Dot sailing over the horizon!!

Will has guided us on our journey from day skippers to transatlantic sailers, he's helped in rationalising our thoughts and ideas from, what training courses to do, through to buying a new (second hand) yacht. On the practical side he's sailed with us on our own yacht, teaching us and giving us the confidence to sail better ourselves. On top of that he's a really nice bloke. I'd recommend Will and White Dot Sailing to anyone needing guidance or practical help with anything to do with sailing.
