The Worshipful Company of Glaziers & Painters of Glass is one of the ancient Livery Companies of the City of London. It’s origins go back to 1328 or earlier when the first mention of the Guild of Glaziers is recorded. Today the Company, through its charitable arm - The Glaziers’ Foundation - actively supports the art and craft of stained glass with competitions and awards for those active in the craft; the provision of apprenticeship schemes and other professional development opportunities; grants made to fund important conservation projects; and the saving of threatened glass which is stored and recycled to new locations where it can again be appreciated by the general public. The work of the Company is undertaken by a large body of keen and enthusiastic Liverymen who also enjoy a convivial and interesting social programme, which includes visits to stained glass sites both in the UK and overseas, organised each year by the Company’s Master. Some 20% of the Livery are practising stained glass artists and craftsmen, but the majority, including myself, are laymen who bring a wide range of other expertise to the work of the Company. As a member of the Company for some 15 years, and a Court Assistant since 2011, I have had the opportunity, and privilege, to support the ongoing work of The Glaziers’ Foundation in a number of ways. This has been very rewarding and it has also enabled me to learn so much about this ancient and beautiful art form. Anyone with an interest in stained glass should give serious consideration to joining our vibrant and flourishing Company, where you will meet many like minded and enthusiastic individuals!

The Glaziers’ Company is one of the ancient Livery Companies of the City of London. It dates from the 14th century. Today its members play a full role in the civic life of the City of London and enjoy valuable networking and social opportunities. Through its charity, The Glaziers Foundation, it supports education and conservation, and all its activities are devoted to promoting the art and craft of stained glass. It has a wonderful Livery Hall, Glaziers' Hall, which is located at the south end of London Bridge. The Hall is a former dockside warehouse dating from the early 19th century. The Glaziers' Company acquired it in the 1970s and it has been their home since then.
